Dr. Lorrie S. Crochet is currently chair of the department of music, professor of music, and director of bands, at Winthrop University. Dr. Crochet is the music director and conductor of the Carolinas Wind Orchestra and Wind Symphony. Other responsibilities include instructor for instrumental music education courses and conducting. Dr. Crochet earned her bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Missouri, Kansas City, and her master's degree in wind conducting and doctorate in music education from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, where she studied with Gary Green and Nicholas DeCarbo.
Prior to moving to south Florida, Dr. Crochet taught instrumental music in grades 4 through 12 in the Olathe School District in Olathe, Kansas. While attaining her master's degree at the University of Miami, Dr. Crochet served as assistant conductor of the wind ensemble, symphonic winds, and chamber winds. From 1996 to 2000, she was the director of bands at Charles W. Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines, Florida. While attaining her doctorate degree at the University of Miami, Dr. Crochet served as assistant instructor of music education.
Dr. Crochet has served as a clinician, guest conductor, and adjudicator in Florida, Georgia, Kansas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Oregon, Virginia, and Mississippi. She has conducted wind ensembles at the Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conference in Chicago, Illinois, Music Educators Professional Development Conferences in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Kansas, at the American Bandmasters Association Convention, and at the New York Sounds of Spring International Music Festival in Carnegie Hall. Dr. Crochet currently holds memberships in the National Association for Music Education, College Band Directors National Association, National Band Association, South Carolina Music Educators Association, South Carolina Bandmasters Association, North Carolina Bandmasters Association, Pi Kappa Lambda, and Phi Beta Mu – The International Bandmaster's Fraternity.
